Surya Namaskar – A Moving Meditation for Clarity and Focus

When I first encountered Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), I saw it the way many people do—as a warm-up. A way to stretch and awaken the body before the “real” yoga begins. But through the lens of Purna Yoga, my understanding deepened profoundly.
This realisation inspired me to create the video:"Surya Namaskar – An Ancient Ritual for Clarity and Focus with Drishti."
In the Purna Yoga tradition, Surya Namaskar is not simply physical—it is purposeful. It is a ritual for mental clarity, a practice to align the body with the breath, the gaze, and—most importantly—the heart. This Classical Surya Namaskar is different. It is not a performance. It is a sacred structure where each part is designed to support your inner evolution.
In the video, I guide you through this version step by step, including:
✨ Staying on the X-axis – to centre the awareness and avoid scattering the mind
✨ Alignment and action in each pose – to cultivate precision, presence, and safety
✨ Breath-guided movement – to synchronise your inner and outer rhythm
✨ Drishti – the gaze that steadies the mind and draws the senses inward
✨ Intention – because what you bring to your practice matters more than what you do on your mat
This isn’t a beginner-level sequence—it’s for practitioners and especially teachers who want to move beyond surface-level practice and explore the inner work that true yoga demands.
One person said:
“I so appreciate this detailed tutorial that includes the movements and the drishti. It has really helped me understand the process and how it fits with all of the parts…”
And that’s exactly why I created it—to offer a space for you to refine your awareness, reconnect with the deeper purpose of asana, and reclaim your practice as a tool for inner clarity.
